About the Perihelion: A novel construction and patterning method we call SurroundDown solves one of the major problems common to insulated jackets: compression and cold spots. Conventional construction looks good but creates thin, poorly insulated zones along the shoulders, chest, elbows, and anywhere else there are contact points created by movement or weight. These typical jackets are patterned and quilted flat. SurroundDown patterning allows down chambers to loft over pressure points without being compressed. On the inside, we let down fill the cavity around the body to trap heat and keep things cozy.  Surround down chambers can expand and loft differently depending on width, height, and direction. The result is a down jacket that is warmer than it looks, and stays that way during wear, from low to high impact activities.

Ideal uses: a compressible but much warmer jacket for everyday cold weather use, at the top of a ski tour, break in climbing, or a lunch break during the hike.
